India Climate Investment Conclave 2021: Unlocking Capital for Early Stage Startups

Virtual Event
9th & 10th September 2021

As India is focusing on building back from the shocks of Covid-19, we believe the role of ‘climate’ as a sector becomes more central now than ever in strengthening and sustaining our recovery efforts. The Early-stage climate-tech start-up ecosystem in segments such as – energy efficiency and access, sustainable mobility (transport), waste management, agriculture and food etc. – shows untapped opportunity and tremendous potential to generate unique innovations that can help address the multi-dimensional effects of climate change on lives and livelihoods. The current ecosystem for climate-tech startups in India lacks a coherent narrative and a distinct identity, notwithstanding the ability of these innovative solutions to create climate impact at scale. There is an urgent need for climate related start-up investments to evolve from a niche narrow asset class to a more mainstream element of the impact investing and venture capital ecosystem in the country.

Re-Imagining Traditional Finance for India’s COVID Recovery

Virtual Event
28th May 2021

COVID-19 is an unprecedented health and development crisis. The efforts required to contain its spread by curtailing movement to limit exposure have severely impacted lives and livelihoods and stalled economic activity. While a significant amount of capital has been deployed by the Government, there is scope to do more. Commercial mainstream capital can fill this funding gap, provided opportunities are appropriately structured and the risk return profile is aligned. Blended finance involves using philanthropic or concessionary funds to de-risk investments in order to attract commercial capital. This catalytic approach leads to a leveraging effect where every rupee of grant money deployed attracts many multiples of commercial capital.

Indian Impact Investing Showcase Looking Back, Looking Forward

Virtual Event
12 Sep, 2020 | 1:15p.m. – 5:00p.m.

India has a good opportunity to make a substantial contribution to the  mainstreaming of impact investing that we will see playing out over the medium term in international capital markets. Given that perspective, we felt that it will be useful to curate a series of dialogues around the Indian impact narrative to reach out to existing as well as prospective stakeholders. The Indian impact investing showcase is the first of such dialogues, and formed a precursor to the Global investor conference’ Indian Impact Investing Week – Prabhav 2020′ held in October 2020.

The Indian Impact investing showcase was an investor conference focussed around IIC’s first ground-up impact aggregation study that covers over 600 impact
enterprises across ten years of investing history, reflections from the government on how can policy priorities unlock greater capital for national goals and views and insights from the industry leaders on the way forward to take impact investing to the next level.
