Carbon Masters - Creating Carbonalites

Two climate friendly brands produced from organic waste streams that provide clean energy and contribute to regenerative agriculture .

Although estimates vary India generates c 65 million tonnes of organic waste per annum most of which is ending up in landfills causing pollution and releasing methane, a greenhouse gas with a global warming potential 80 times greater than CO2 (over a ten year time frame ).

India also imports 80% of its oil, 50% of its gas and 35% of its chemical fertilizers all of which are now at sky high prices , over which India has little control.

The overuse of chemical fertilizers particularly urea and pesticides along with Industrial type farming practices are denuding Indian soils of carbon and other nutrients resulting in flat to declining crop yields impacting farmer’s incomes.

Carbon Masters, a climate tech company from Bangalore on a mission to address the climate crisis has developed technology that can address all three of the above problems sustainably .

It takes organic waste ( food waste ) and agri wastes ( cow dung, pressmud , rice straw) and converts that via anaerobic digestion into biogas . It then purifies that gas using its proprietary purification technology into its two Carbonlites brands . Carbonlites bio-cng is a carbon neutral fuel that can displace fossil fuels in commercial cooking, transport and Industrial heating .

Carbonlites bio-cng provides hotel and restaurant owners with a way to save both costs and carbon emissions by switching from LPG to a carbon neutral fuel that provides a cooking performance preferred by chefs.

The nutrient rich digestate from its bio digesters is converted into a carbon enriched bio fertilizer which is sold to farmers to put carbon and other nutrients back in their soil. This improves its fertility, helps farmers reduce their use of chemical fertilizers and further saves carbon emissions.

The Carbonlites solution incorporates innovative technologies developed in India, including specialized crushers designed to handle food waste , anaerobic digestion technology allied with proprietary purification technology that removes the CO2, Hydrogen sulfide and moisture from the raw biogas to produce Carbonlites Bio-CNG .This is them compressed into uniquely designed cascades and cylinders that facilitate the easy and safe transition from LPG at the customer site on a vehicle fleet that runs on our carbonlites gas further saving diesel costs and emissions .

Converting India’s abundant organic waste streams into Carbonlites is arguably one of the best Carbon mitigation solutions available in the world today. At scale it can reduce the load on landfills mitigating methane emissions, it can replace fossil fuels in transport for commercial cooking and industrial heating saving CO2 emissions . By putting carbon back in the soil and reducing chemical fertilizer consumption it can further save carbon emissions . A typical 100 tonne waste input plant converting that waste to bio -cng and organic manure can save c20,000 tonnes of CO2e per year . In addition if one looks at the complete eco -system from waste collection transport and conversion, the Carbonlites solution can address 9 of the 17 Sustainable development goals ( SDG’s ). It provides a sustainable solution to assist India in achieving its net zero goals.
